I’ve experimented with a number of different headache remedies over the years, because I’m not a huge fan of popping pills unless absolutely necessary. As with most health issues, I’ve found that prevention pretty much trumps every cure, and for me that means getting massages on a somewhat regular basis, taking breaks when I’m doing anything eye strainy, and not stressing out over every little thing.
However, even when I’m sticking to my little prevention plan, headaches crop up from time to time, largely because I work full-time as a sculptor of miniatures, which means that my slumped-over work posture makes Gollum look like a ballerina. Bring on the tension headache.
A couple of weeks ago, though, I stumbled on a little energy move that’s been working like a charm. It might already be an established energy medicine technique that I’ve just never encountered, but it came to me while I was meditating and struggling to get rid of a distracting headache.
If acupressure points or other methods are already working for you, carry on. None of those seem to do the trick for me, so if you’re in the same boat, here’s something else to try.
Headache Healing Energy Trick
1. Begin by closing your eyes and taking a minute or two to relax. Bring your attention to your breath and slowly inhale and exhale.
2. Now, bring your focus to the back of your head. Starting at the top, about three inches behind the crown of your head, you are going to visualize an energy track shaped like a lemniscate (infinity symbol).
Check out the diagram to see which direction the energy will be flowing along this track.
3. Begin to consciously move the energy in your head and upper back along the track, starting at the top of the lemniscate and moving along the figure eight pattern. You should be able to feel the difference, within a few passes around the track, between just visualizing the energy moving and actually feeling it as it travels around the track.
Feel as the energy moves down one side of your head, traveling right behind your ear, crossing over at the back of your neck, looping down between your shoulder blades, and returning up the other side, crossing again at your neck, passing behind the opposite ear, and returning through the top of the loop.
4. This might be enough to get rid of the headache, but if you need a little extra oomph, as you pass through the top of the loop, invite sky energy to enter the track, following the lemniscate around as you continue cycling your own energy now mixed with sky energy.
I’ve had success releasing even rather pernicious headaches with the addition of sky energy in only two to three passes around the track, and I now find myself, on days when I have a lot of sculpting or computer time scheduled, running through this periodically, releasing tension before it even has a chance to build.
Take that, Advil.
